2003 FORD TAURUS GEARS NOT ENGAGING

2nd tranny in this car, is it possible that theres something outside of tranny housing that has become disconnected from the drivetrain, causing a loss of forward and reverse gears? We were accelerating to enter traffic when car stopped it's forward motion while pressing gas pedal.

Is it full of fluid? Have it scanned for codes by a trans guy

Yes. Previous owner did a fluid change, lees than 2500 miles since. What do most trans specialists charge for a diagnostic?

Sometimes they charge nothing depending on what s wrong with it. If the previous guy changed fluid there was probably something wrong with it then. Hey may have put a junkyard trans in it that was in poor shape to begin with or he was hard on the car.
