I know the gasket on the intake manifold needs to be replaced, but its not leaking that bad. But a few months ago it started to make this tap or knocking sound, but it just did it ever once in a while, not always when it was cold or first thing in the morning. Then last month all of sudden it started doing it ALL the time, and one mechanic told me it was the lifters, another one said all the lifters can't go out at once and that it was the oil pump, it wasn't getting oil at the top of the motor

Sounds like valve lifter leakdown problem to me-if its making the the ticking/tapping during cold starts and fades away when engine gets to normal operating temperature
