CAR WON'T START WHATSOEVER

Alright, so I'm not sure of the specifics of the car in particular, it's a friend of mines' but we're going to New York tonight, or hoped to anyways. When we try to start up the car, it doesn't even crank, and then this really loud and odd fan noise kicks on and stays on until we disconnect the battery. Now, even though this weird fan noise is happening, they're not turning, and it started to smell like it was burning but right when that became prevalent we stopped trying anything. When we reconnect the battery, the engine will literally try and kick itself on for a split second, and then the fan noise continues.

Check battery for condition including load test then check for a bad starter solenoid hanging up
