You'll have to pull the caliper and claiper bracket off then if the rotor doesn't want to come off, spray soeme pentrating oil around the center and hit it with a hammer to knock it loose. Do not hit any wheel studs. If it doesn't comeoff you'll have to wait and try again.

We recently purchased the vehicle listed above only to find out that it burns 3/4 quart of oil every 500 miles. After completing oil consumption testing to prove to Mazda it was burning oil they suggested replacing the PCV valve. So far this seems to have fixed the problem. My question is the brake warning light is on can you help me do front brakes?

Hi,

Replacing front brakes isn't too hard to do. You can expect to get approx 25,000 miles from a set of pads, but that is based on the driver.

First, here is a link that shows how to replace brakes and rotors in general. You can use this as a guide.

Serviced my Mazda Tribute 2003 for many months with more than 4 different mechanics and brake pedal goes all the way to the floor. Mechanics replaced pads, master cylinder, caliper, hose, etc. Bled system repeatedly; after a few days, brakes get soft again. They say air gets in brake line; however, can't find the cause of the problem. I have drums in the back and a diagonal system, air getting in driver's side and back passenger right side. I AM BEGGING FOR HELP!

If you are getting air into the system, then fluid needs to be leaking out. Are you sure there are no leaks on the rear wheel cylinders? Have you checked all steel brake lines for rust or bad connections?

Hi! It actually feels great to have seen a response. No leaks, that's the first thing they checked for; they also checked all of the issues/possibilities that you mentioned. Brakes are good, they checked the tires, cylinders too.

There has to be a leak. The brakes are a sealed system. For air to enter, there has to be a leak. They are missing something. When they bleed the brakes, do they start from the right rear tire and work their way to the closest wheel to the MC?

Hi. Sorry for the delay. I brought it back to the Mazda dealer and printed your suggestions, the mechanic read them all and was very appreciative and checked everything including the wheel cylinders and I believe he bled the system using your instructions. To make long story short, he ended up calling the Mazda guys in California and was instructed to perform a full system brake fluid bleed and to also perform an IDS ABS Service Bleed. IDS activates all ABS solenoids in the hydraulic control unit (HCU). The specialist advised that the problem is most likely in the HCU; if problem reoccurs- HUC leaks internally and causes air in the system.
Meaning I would have to replace the Hydraulic Control Unit. They said that they had the same problem before and their solution was to replace this unit and even the Ford guys use the same system and this resolved their problem as well.

I am very happy with your responses so I wanna know your opinion about this one. Thanks so so much for your honest, quick and helpful responses.

Hi:
I'm glad to help. As far as their recommendations, I would suggest you have them bleed the entire system. If the air gets into the system again, then the HCU is most likely the cause.

Let me know how things work out for you.

When coming to a stop my front brakes start to chatter. I have replaced the rotors on both sides thinking they were warped. Still chattering. Brake pads are almost new hardly worn. Could it be something other than the brakes that is causing it to chatter?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Have you checked steering components? An extremely loose tie rod, ball joint, or other steering or suspension component can cause something like this.

Here is what I suggest, safely lift one front wheel at a time. Leave one side on the ground. To check for tie rod issues, place your hand at both 3 and 9 o'clock and with effort, try to wiggle the wheel back and forth. Is there excessive play you can feel or see? Next, do the same at 12 and 6 o'clock. This will check for ball joint play.

Do this and let me know what you find. Also, I need to know if there are any noises you hear when driving and not touching the brakes. For example, do you hear a howling noise that changes pitch when making turns and with speed?

I recently took my car to a mazda dealership due to smelling a burning smell. They assured me I had nothing to be concerned about it was simply my ac motor. Three hours later I was stuck at yet a second shop with my caliper on my front passenger side locked up. There is a recall on my car for the abs module and the dealership lied to me and told me the recall was expired, I talked to mazda and it isnt. So I am curious if this problem with the module could cause my caliper to lock up.

First of all, recalls never expire.

No, the module will not cause this.

The caliper locks up from breakdown of the brake fluid and moisture gets into the caliper and rust forms causing all kinds of issue. Brake fluid is the most neglected fluid in a vehicle. People ignore changing it till something happens and by then, it is too late.

Go to a another shop and get a bid on the needed repair. Make sure they flush your brake fluid.
