Car won't get out of low gear when cold (V6 automatic)
Transmission fluid and Oil seem to be at right levels.
"check engine" light comes on
Once car is warmed up then car operates fine.
"check engine" light then goes out.
"TSS" light also comes on, then goes off when warmed up

The first thing I need from you is the exact code numbers in the computer not the code descriptions?Thats are starting point. The fluid is a nice red color correct? Its not black is it?

Yes, the transmission fluid is still red tint, not black.
Don't have code numbers. If the check engine light is off, will Advanced Auto Parts or other places that hook up to computer still do this for you?

They should because if the light was on a code will be stored and I need the codes so we can see where to go next.

The Check Engine and TSS lights should not be showing when engine is running and the delayed time for them to go off indicates this could be a fault with the electrical circuits, mostly relay faults.

I posted the trouble for the code P1607 its for a ecm/pcm internal failure but you will have to follow the trouble tree to find out if its bad. It could be the computer causing the transmission issues especially if the check light light comes on when the transmission has issues and when the light shuts off the issues are gone.

When the car is fully warmed up (10 minutes running) the check engine light goes out as well as the TSS light
and car shifts gears normally. If computer was bad wouldn't you still have shifting problems with transmission?

The only thing we know so far is we have a code for a bad computer I have seen some very crazy things over the years. The first thing I would address is the computer code. We could go chasing the transmission problem but dont have any codes to go on. But what I would find is a very intresting fact is the check engine is on when the transmission acts up and when  the light is off and it shifts fine with the light off. Also the only code you have is the bad computer code.

Thanks for your thoughts. If you were me would you take the car to a honda dealer for an assessment? THe temperature has been in the upper 60's and the car has started and runs fine. Should we change the transmission fluid to see if that helps the situation? Does the computer control the shifting from gear to gear? What does a new computer chip cost?

Thanks again, this is a valuable service.

Yes the computer controls the transmission shifting thats why with that code and the symptoms I would be following the trouble tree for the code. Problem is though now the car isnt acting up so it will be difficult to diagnose the issue.

Generally, what does it cost to replace the computer? Should we change or have a transmission flush?

You can change the fluid I wouldn't flush it though I doubt it will the issue. Does the fluid look dark?Iam having trouble finding a price on a computer most of the aftermarket places I have checked dont have one. It usually isnt cheap to replace one but we dont even know if it's bad.
