Transmission not shifting

Hey mate, my 2005 ford falcon(with 195000 kms) has a automatic with triptronic, I've had it for a year now, when I used the triptronic, I had accidently downshifted to first gear from second at about 20 kmph and the car transmission would make a thud, and the car would engine brake slightly, the revs wont go up by much, but im more worried about the transmission. I've done this about 8 times the other day using the triptronic. However ive tested the car in auto mode and the gear changes seemed fine.

if any damage is done, is it serious damage as in the transmission will break or something, or its minor damage like slight wear?

Much appreciated :)

The only way to find out is to bring it to a transmission shop and have it further diagnosed

Normally not a real problem, the transmission will only down shift if the internal pressures and speed sensors are in the correct range, with that said, try not to over do it, as the shock loading will eventually cause some damage.

This could be a tough one to fix. However, check the simple things first. Make sure the trans fluid is clean and full. If it is, check to see if the transmission linkage is attached and working properly. You will need a helper to check that. If they are both okay and there are no check engine lights on, you may need to contact a tech to scan things for you.

Hi, it's an automatic. The gear stick now feels a bit loose also. He has had lights that stay on the dash for about a month now. Orange with a lightening.

Just to add to this one. Do what Joe said to check. But the first shifter is loose and wobbling you may have a problem with that shift bowl that the shift arm goes into. Also check the shift linkage or cable at the base of the steering column it may have come off there. Good luck we hope this will help you fix your car.

I have built a Ford Falcon 1998 into a 1954 Ute and I had to cut and modify the curved gear linkage on the gear box side, but now that I have completed the job when I put the car in what I believe is drive it does not change gears at all. I tried to adjust the linkage as best as I could but I could not get park after that. What is the best way to remedy the problem?

We only deal with direct fit parts. As far as this, when you modified the linkage, it sounds like it isn't long enough to reach park. When you change angles on the linkage, you also change the distance it travels.

Hi there,

This will be an internal problem may be with a shift solenoid, I would get a scan first as this may pick up an electrical problem in the transmission, start here.
