Hello again.

The ECM is located in the same place on the Escort and Escort Wagon. May I ask why it needs replacing? All ECM's can be reprogrammed using a Ford Factory reprogrammer. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions if needed. Thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com.

I believe the component you are referring to is the PCM (power-train control module). It is located under the dash, center of vehicle. I have attached directions for removal and replacement.
Removal and replacement:

Power-train Control Module And Fuel Pump Relay

Removal:

Caution: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
Note: The power-train Control Module (PCM) is located on the floor tunnel ahead of the shift console in the PCM bracket. The Power-train Control Module Relay (12A646) and fuel pump relay (9345) are mounted on the PCM bracket.
Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).
Remove the shift console and control box side covers (04541).
Disconnect the EEC-IV harness connector from the PCM.
Remove the PCM relay and the fuel pump relay from the PCM bracket.
Remove the rear seat heater outlet duct adapter and pad from the top of the PCM bracket.
Remove the three PCM bracket bolts and loosen the one retaining nut.
Remove the PCM and bracket from the vehicle floor tunnel.
Remove the PCM from the the PCM bracket by sliding it straight out.

Installation:

Reverse the removal procedure.
Tighten the PCM bracket bolts to 8 Nm (6 ft lb).
Tighten the wiring harness electrical connector bolt to 6.2 Nm (55 in lb).

Note: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the power-train control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven ten miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.
Take care,
Joe
