What are possible causes for the symptoms noted in the failed smog test? Misfire in cylinder, running lean in one bank. Car overheated recently. I had the engine repaired at a shop. They rebuilt the top half of the engine(I'm not certain what all that included). The car passed smog in Ca last year, but failed this year in Wa.

The misfire will cause it to fail. Check for tune up. Check fuel pump pressure. Check engine compression.
