Hey you guys! I have a weird fault in my 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0 Flex Fuel auto 2WD. My Speedo will bounce when pushing the brake pedal. Eventually the ABS fault trips and the speedo stops working. If I could drive to work without using my brakes I would never know. To verify this we did an experiment, we put the truck on a lift, put it in drive and tried to make it not work. We found that the rear brakes will not work while in third gear or above. The rear tires simply keep on spinning even after the brakes are applied. These symptoms do not present themselves in second gear or below. The front brakes are not affected, probably because they are not ABS. Shifting is of course bad because it is controlled electronically and dependent on speedo inputs. I have replaced the speed sensor in the rear diff. Twice, so I am pretty sure it is not that. What do you think?
