Smoke came from alternator now car will barely crank. It will only half crank over for 2seconds really slowly and then stop. Could the alternator short out the car or take power from the starter motor? Because smoke came from the alternator could wires be shortin inside which in turn prevent it from startin with the key or would you more likely think I need a starter and alternator. Any info appreciated. Cheers: -)

Well, it sounds like at least you will need a new alternator. Have you checked to make sure the battery is fully charged?
