2000 Ford F-150 shifting issues

When trying to put my truck in park from the shift column it will not go into park. When I crawl underneath the truck and manually push it into park, what could that be? I am thinking it is the shift solenoid inside the transmission but I am not 100% completely positive.

It can be the shift cable has come out of adjustment or is just stretched to much to not work. See pic for cable adjustment it may need a new cable though.

I'd say more of age than anything else but who knows it's 14 yrs old that's a lot for a vehicle.
