I have an issue with my 2000 ZX2 escort.

It just quits running while driving. I have replaced the fuel filter, timing belt and checked fuel pressure.

Most times if you let it sit it will restart after awhile.

I has also tried to quit at lights, but been able to ped gas to get running smooth again

Help where should I look next? I have checked voltage to the pressure regulator and it is correct.

No. I had to check fuel pressure via reg valve voltage. Ford had some rails that they did not supply a connection for gauge.

Now I am getting P1633 and P0340

I had the same problem. I noticed that it only happened when my tank was below 1/4. When I pulled the pump the housing (plastic) was discolored. Seems when the tank was low the pump would heat up and shut down. The fuel cools the pump. Replaced the pump assembly and everything works fine.

I have a 2000, Ford, Escort ZX2, 85,000 miles, 5-speed. The battery light is on, however I already bought a new one. I was starting to think it was the alternator, until I looked under the car and it looks like a belt is ripped to shreds. The car still starts and I can it will drive for a few minutes but then it just slowly dies out. Do you know what could be causing this problem?

I'm not familiar with that exact model, but if the car is slowly dieing out as your're driving the charging system is not doing it's job, you're running strictly on battery power, and that's probably good for a couple of hours max, with minimum accessories going. Shredded belt is probably part, or the issue, have you ever changed the belts? Put another one on.

Another test to do is wait until the car is completly cooled off, and remove what is left of the belt. Turn by hand the altenator and see if the bearings are bad. It should turn freely with your hand. You may need a new altenator and belt.
Good luck

Now I just changed the fuel filter and plugs and wires wich helped alot but it still dosent want to keep running I have to feather the gas to keep it running. It seems like it is starving itself for gas but I know thats not the problem if any one has some sugestion's I would appreciat it.

Check for vacuum leaks and check the idle air control valve. It is on the throttle body and responsible for maintaining idle.

My 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 idles hard and the RPM meter stays normal but drops to zero and sometimes stalls when I`m driving slow, what`s the problem?

About two years ago my car started to Idle rough then about a month ago my car started to stall when I was driving slowly 5-20 MPH, I noticed that every time it stalled the RPM meter would drop to zero. When I was driving faster my car would be fine and seemed to get better the longer it was running. About a week ago that was no longer the case, now it does it no matter how fast I`m driving or how long it`s running. The check engine light IS NOT on and my mechanic has checked the timing belt, air flow system and spark plugs and he says that their fine, he told me to find someone who knows what`s wrong then he`ll fix it.

Engine Performance problem
2000 Ford Escort Front Wheel Drive Manual 150000 miles

My 2000 ford escort was recently tuned up and got a new timing belt. However, it was feeling like it was going to stall when I stopped. Yesterday, it started stalling in stop and go traffic. I swung by my mechanic and he said that it wasn't the clutch, but perhaps the heat (it was almost 110). I feel that there must be another answer - something I can fix to ensure that my car will run reliably. Any thoughts?

Hello,
Seems like when I am driving it is not getting gas or clean air and it dies. Sometimes it sounds as if something is blocking air flow or fuel flow and the car is struggling to breathe or recieve what it needs from its source. I let it sit for months before I got a new battery. When it did not start we checked alternator, . Fine BUT then we found that fuse box under the hood and my 80 amp fuse is blown. Could this be the culprit? Or.
Thank you in advance.
