Neither of my remote transmitters will function on my car even after I changed the batteries. The doors will not lock or unlock. The sliding rear doors will not operate by the control either. I have a red, round warning light displayed on my dashboard guages at the top right. What is your opinion?

The Sentry Key Remote Entry System (SKREES) is available as a factory-installed option on this vehicle. It is designed to provide passive protection against unauthorized vehicle use by disabling the engine, after two (2) seconds of running, whenever an invalid key is used to start the vehicle. The SKIS is active whenever the ignition is on and does not require any customer intervention. The primary components of the system are the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM), Sentry Key (integrated key with transponder and RKE on a circuit board), indicator light, Body Control Module (BCM), and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The SKREEM is mounted to the steering column with the molded, integral antenna mounted on the ignition housing. The indicator light, is located in the Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC).

The SKREES includes keys from the factory which are pre-programmed. Each SKREEM will recognize a maximum of eight Sentry Keys. If the customer would like to own additional keys other than those provided with the vehicle, they can be purchased from any authorized dealer. These keys must be programmed to the SKREEM on the vehicle in order for the system to recognize them as valid keys. This can be done by the dealer with a DRBIIIÂ scan tool or by a customer if this feature is available in their market and they have two 2. Valid keys already available to them. Refer to the Service Procedures portion of this system for additional details. The SKREES performs a self-test each time the ignition switch is turned to the ON position and will store Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) if a system malfunction is detected.

The SKREES can be diagnosed and any stored DTC's can be retrieved using a DRBIII (R) scan tool as described in the appropriate Body Diagnostic Procedures information.

I'm wanting to get another keyless remote for my 2000 dodge caravan sport and I need to know if my van has the canbus electrical system. The description states that this keyless remote will not work with vehicles that have the canbus electrical system. Thank you.

The CAN Buss system was first used on a few 2004 models. You have the OBD2, (on-board diagnostics, version 2) system. Up to four remotes can be programmed to your van with the dealer's DRB3 scanner. A lot of independent shops bought that scanner too because with an extra plug-in card it will do emissions-related stuff on any 1996 and newer car of any brand sold in the U.S. With the OBD2 system.
