i was told i needed to replace a right rear control arm and spindle rod do these have other names and where they located

The control arm could b called a lateral link an the spindle rod could be called a trailing arm.The would both be connected to the rear knuckle/ or spindle as there calling it.Why did they say they have to b replaced?
