1999 Nissan Altima My fans never work

My fans never work; only when the air conditioning is on do they turn on and off like they’re supposed to. What could that be?

There is a temperature sensor that signals the fans to come on when the cooling system gets warm. Your sensor may be faulty or disconnected.
