RPM REALLY HIGH

Hi, my son just bought a ford explorer 1999 auto it has done 160,000 k's.
rpm are 3000 from 5 to 50 kph when it reaches 60kmh the car jolts forward rpm stay the same seems to get really hot under the bonnet.
Any help would be really appreciatted thankyou warm regards Christine

It sounds like you have an issue with the transmission. Have a shop road test it for you to be sure.
