1999 DODGE RAM OVRHEATING AND KNOCKING

The truck runs fine when cold but once it passes the midway mark 210 degrees and begins to overheat there is a knocking sound coming from the engine, it makes the sound while on gear, if I place it in neutral or parking and accelerate there is no knocking sound. I am wondering what it can be, if the noise is due to the overheating and how I can fix it.

I would start by fixing the overheating issue. Have you replaced the thermostat? Does it overheat when you are at highway speeds or only when in traffic or sitting?
