1999 nissan pathfinder engine turns over but will not start. Car was sitting outside unused for several months. Replaced fuel filter, fuel pressure test ok 42 psi. Fuel present at injector manifold. Some injector wires were mouse chewed but were repaired. Removed upper air intake and repaired wiring. Spark plugs were bad and replaced. Checked spark with tester, ok. Camshaft position sensor failed test, replaced distributor. When trying to start sounds like a few cylinders fire then nothing. Engine continues to crank but will not start?

Check the crank sensor,on the top,of bellhousing behind engine. it may cause the problem. Check the injectors.measure the internal resistance of each injector with an ohmmeter. Disconnect each injector from its harness and measure the resistance across its terminals. If resistance is not within specifications (typically 3 to 5 ohms for a low-resistance injector, or 12 to 17 ohms for a high-resistance injector), the injector needs to be replaced. A difference of only 1 ohm less than specifications may be enough to prevent the injector from opening reliably under some operating conditions.

I did check the injectors resisitance when I had the upper intake off but since then I bought a new digital meter so I'll check again with that. But since the engine will not start at all it would seam all the injectors would have to have gone bad at the same time. Seems more like the crank shaft sensor would be the problem. Can this sensor keep the engine from starting? Per the manual this sensor is used to determine the engine speed.

The crankshaft position sensor signal to trigger the fuel injectors. Not all the injectors can go bad same time. So, if there is no spark and no injector activity, the problem is likely in the crank position sensor.

One day while driving my car just died and wouldn't start back up. OBD says camshaft sensor, so I replaced the whole distributior since it's all part of Assembly, replaced the fuel pump, crank position sensor, fuel filter, pcv valve, and still won't start. It has a strong cranking motion but still won't start. I'm stomped, any suggestions?

It sounds like the ECCS relay is not working here is a guide to help you check it along with the location of the relay.

this guide can help as well.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Pathfinder was operating normally one day, then it sputtered and died like it was running out of gas. Car will crank but won't start. Tried spraying starting fluid in the air intake to see if it would fire but nothing. Doesn't seem to be getting a spark. All fuses seem good. All other electrical is working. Replaced Dist cap and rotor button. Still no fire.

Hi benztv, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

Check and test the following power at the black and white wire on the coil, coil itself, distributor pick-up coil, camshaft and crankshaft position sensors.

If the rotor is not turning then you need to replace the timing belt. But I must warn you the valve might be bent on that engine. So sometimes the heads will need to come of for a valve job.

Please let us know what happens.

Best, Ken

Need to verify fuel pressure, just because the pump is running doesnt mean it is up to spec, should be between 34-43 psi if not the vehicle wont run. Also check for spark.

I just replaced my 1999 Nissan pathfinder engine with a new remand engine, changed all the oil and coolant, wires and spark plugs, distributor, thermostat, radiator, fan belts, and manifolds. Why does it crank but not take a spark. I double check everything anything I overlooked or suggestions to get this new engine started?

Lets do below for a start to determine if its fuel or spark related issue and get back with some results

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine atleast 3/16 away from ground-have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it
