I have a 1995 Nissan Altima. Ran over a significant several months ago. When I went over the rock, my fuel gauge went from full tank to 3/4 tank. No fuel actual fuel loss though. Short time later, I tripped trouble code for fuel tank temp. Sender. I removed fuel pump and it wasn't mounted to any kind of retaining bracket in tank. Just floating around in tank. Further examination of sender showed severed wire going to temp sense. I repaired wire and reinstalled pump - sender unit into tank. I could not fee any kind of lock so just left unit float. The tank has not read above 3/4 since that day. Will go down as fuel burns. The check engine light has come back on, same code - fuel temp sensor-. I once again removed pump - sender unit and purchased a new sender. I verifyed that I get a full sweep of fuel gage by moving sender through full range. What concerns me is that I cant "lock" down fuel pump in tank. There doesn't appear to be any broken tangs on pump and looking into tank shows a white " mount" that I assume pump is to lock into. My question is how to lock in the pump. Any help appreciated.
