Do you have a multimeter to do some testing? You could have a ground issue to the motor. Does your a/c clutch come on when you turn on the a/c?

Hello! I have a 1996 saturn sl DOHC that has been nothing but trouble, I had let my friend drive it once and he said that it overheated and wouldnt start back up after he put water in the radiator. When I got to where he had left my car I noticed that there was engine oil all over the engine, and strangely enough a hole in the radiator cap, which made no sense because there wasnt any radiator fluid on the engine. I later realized that the head gasket had a tiny hairline crack and my dad tried j/b welding it, but all that did was add to the mess in a way. Now come to find my engine is still leaking, and the radiator fan wont turn on by itself I have to turn it on manually everytime before I drive it. I bought a sensor and a relay but even after replacing those the fan still isnt working. So basically my question is how do I rewire the connection to fan so that it will work on its own?

Have you tried googling saturn radiator fan controls/problem? I just did and there are several tips available. You can also search this saturn sl2 forum for previous similar problems and answers.

If ur cooling fan comes on with the a/c but not when ur car gets to 222-226 degrees then I would replace the coolant temp sensor it's screwed into the head below where the upper hose attaches. There's two wires going to it a yellow one and black one. Also check the connector if it's corroded then replace the connector as well. Make sure u get a brass tipped the plastic tipped ones crack. Make sure the engine is cold and u will loose some coolant. Let me know how it goes.

I have the same problem and can not figure it out - I replaced the temp sensor, flushed the radiator, tested the fan with battery and it worked, changed the fan relay and still can not get the fan to turn on - should I just hard wire it and manually turn it on/off? Please give me advice - thank you

The cooling fan runs all the time from the time you start the engine untill you turn it off. When I first bought the car the fan didnt run but the heater and stereo didnt work now while installing the stereo I found the constant hot under dash and it appared to be missing a wire that had been connected befor and the was a loose red wire hanging si I hooked it up and heater started to work but fan came on aswell. So im pretty sure that tyhe wireing for the fan motor isnt correct or somthing of that nature but im not sure what it should look like under there so I dont know can you please help me with a wiring diagram or somthing hell even a picture would work

Have had a problem with the cooling fan occasionally coming on and staying on (while the car's running). Now, the check engine light comes on sometimes (car runs rough while the light is on); had it scanned for code yesterday, and the code said transmission range control failure. My understanding is that both problems have to do with a "circuit being open"-?-I'm wondering what the be$t way is to proceed with further diagnosis and repair-could use some help!

I think this is the correct way to get you the info you asked for

I had the code determined at an Auto Zone-will they/can they provide the true mfg code(s) if I ask them for it? If so, I'll contact them and send an additional reply to you-thnx

I am sure what "BB" stands for. But I think this is what it should look like.

Transaxle switch circuit high

Explanation
ECM detected all input circuits high with non pulled low

Probable cause
1. Failed transmission range sensor
2. Open circuit condition

I'll do some research.

Auto Zone said they didn't know what this printout is that they gave me-duh-so I need to go in to one of their stores for a re-reading, for the true mfg codes. I'll shoot you the info later this afternoon-thanks again

Once every couple of weeks, the engine fan comes on and doesn't shut off, even if I turn the car off and then back on.I have a driving job and am running the car approx 4 hrs or so at a time. Today, the fan was on the entire time the car was running. Because this happens only occasionally, I'm wondering if there is some component that might be "sticking", causing this?

Suspect faulty cooling fan relay. If the relay sticks then it will keep the circuit closed which will allow the fan to run constantly.
