If you replace the Catalytic Converter with a straight pipe on a 2002 Chevy Blazer 4.3 with 112000 miles, how do you stop it from throwing the Check Engine light without affecting other check engine signals?

Hello,

You cant get the check engine light to go out without the catalytic converter unless you have a hackbox of some kind.

This video will show you how to replace the Y pipe with cats on a similar vehicle.

It's illegal. Besides, it will throw codes because the back O2 sensor checks emissions and adjusts fuel etc from that data.

It seems the converter has no bolts to remove it what do I do

If it is not a bolt up type, it will have to be cut out and a new cat welded in place, if you do not have the equipment this is a job for a mechanic or an exhaust fitter, the labour charge should be about 1/2 hr max.

Was just told that we need a catalytic converter. Our blazer has two of them and was also told that we can remove the one in the front part of the car and we won't have a problem.
Is it ok to remove the converter and not cause a problem with the car?
It won't do any damage to run without it will it?

I would not suggest permently removing cat converters. If they need to be replaced, I would suggest replacing them

The catalytic converter isn't functioning within the specifications set by the manufacturer. It could be a vacuum leak, bad O2 sensor, or a bad converter.
