I have a 1996 Volkswagen Golf, non-turbo, non-diesel. There is an intermittent noise that comes from below the driver's seat, approximately between the driver's seat and the back seat. The noise only happens after the car has been at high speed for a time (something like at least 10-15 minutes). The noise then occurs while the accelerator is depressed and again after the clutch is depressed but with a delay (before the accelerator is depressed during shifting). The noise sounds like something in between a rattling of a loose part and a hole in the exhaust line. I suspect something related to the exhaust line, but I have been unable to have this confirmed because the car will not make the noise when I take it to the mechanic (I have tried 3 times now). Any thoughts on what this could be?
have the same problem?
