THE CAR'S COOLANT FAN DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY

When the car is running for a moment it starts to get hot or it overheats 'coz the fan does not start, I use to pull out a little bit a fan switch and the fan starts to work. My car is a Toyota corolla DX 1996 1.6.

I took the car to a mechanic to be fixed, but he just burned the engine's computer, now I took it to another one and he told me that a coolant temperature sensor is the problem and I want to know if that could be true.

Check and test the CTS the computer uses the CTS input signal to energize the fan relay to turn on the cooling fan
