Location of camshaft position sensor

Where is the camshaft position sensor in a 1996 nissan sentra gxe? I have a trouble code and rough idling and also hesitation, I was wondering where it is?

The cam sensor is a light emitting diode inside the distributor. Here is a diagrams to help you see where (below)

It is inside the distributor and is replaced as an assembly.

You can either use a scan tool or disconnect the batter for a few seconds.

You're welcome.

After installation of the distributor, you need to check the ignition timing. Mark the position of old distributor and get the new one to as near to original position as possible if you don't have any timing light to check.

Can the camshaft position sensor in a 96 nissan sentra be changed alone or do I have to completely replace the entire distributor?

No, it appears it's only sold with a complete distributor.
