Removal & Installation

Under normal service, fuel filter replacement is not recommended by manufacturer. Fuel filter is integral with fuel pump module, located in fuel tank. See Fig. 76.
Fig. 76: Exploded View Of Fuel Pump Module (Eclipse & Galant)

Removal (Eclipse & Galant)

1. Fuel pump is attached to fuel pump module, located in fuel tank. See
Fig. 76. Release fuel pressure.

2. Remove rear seat cushion and remove fuel pump module service hole cover. See Fig. 86. Working through access hole, cover fuel hose connections with a shop towel and disconnect fuel hoses at fuel pump module.

3. Disconnect electrical connector(s) at fuel pump module. Using Fuel Pump Module Remover/Installer (MB991480), remove fuel pump module. Replace fuel pump/fuel pump module as necessary.

I have a v-6 2000 mistubishi eclipse. The service engine light is on and at times studders when first accelerating. When I put fuel injection cleaner it stops and drives perfectly and the service engine lights comes off. After driving it for a few days the lights come back on and the problem starts again. When I put the fuel cleaner the light goes off and it drives perfectly. I'm guessing its a problem with the fuel filter but no store carries it for my car. They say it doesn't need to be replaced and that its in the fuel tank. Do you think the fuel pump needs to be replaced? Do you know if the fuel filter is in the gas tank? Thanks

Hey BATMANOA,

Yes the fuel filter is in the tank and does not need to be replaced. Your problem sounds like a misfire like the spark plugs need to be replaced.

Here are some guides to help you

and

Please let us know what happens.

Best, Ken

Thank you! I look under hook befor post this Question in the Forum and I was surprise, it's not there :)))). Finally I found this fuel filter is mounted in fuel line under rair passenger side, this is so stupid place, all lines and a filter are very rusted and may break in process, so I decide don't change the filter :)))

There is water leaking on the floorboard. It has no smell, so it must be A/C condensation. I have changed the cabin filter, but a condensation is still forming on the driver-side floorboard. Any other suggestion?
