The battery was dead
1996 MERCURY VILLAGER
The battery was dead. The cables to charge it were put on backwards. Now nothing but the headlights will go on. Is there a main fuse that I should check? What should I do?

Main fuse in the fuse box. Change it and check all other fuses as well. Then keep your fingers crossed you did not burn out any modules.
