We bought the car from friends who had bought it new; always been serviced at the dealers; enjoyed riding in it. Knew the owner had problems at times starting the car (but how difficult a problem can that be?) No problems the first year except we had to have AAA come jumpstart it once. Driveer panel did display "SERVICE REQUIRED" message frequently. After an other couple of non-starting incidences we had it serviced, which seemed to indicate it was the batttery - so it was replaced. Seemed to be okay for a short while but still had non-starting issues. The mechanic did not have any more suggestions and referred us to an electrical specialist. They did their sophisticated testing and determined it was the alternator - so that was replaced. (Not an insignificant cost). First day after taking it away from the mechanics, it would not start. So back it went. More testing and they replaced something to do with the starter. Has not helped. In fact there are more problems: speedometer needle bounces like crazy, bells rings, lights flash, messages are displayed: "32", "PASSKEY SYSTEM FAULT". Help. We love how the car drives; we just wish it was not so difficult to start it.

The security system is the problem. You need to have a dealer check that. They are the only ones with the proper test equipment.
