Any thoughts on what could be causing a metallic clanking/thud sound while trying to turn my 1995 nissan pathfinder at low speeds? thx.

Lots of thoughts but there's no way to see it over a computer. The best plan is to have an inspection performed at a tire and alignment shop. They will look at the ball joints, tie rod ends, control arm bushings, and anti-sway bar links and bushings. If they can't find anything with a visual inspection, (rather unlikely), I have other suggestions on finding noises.
