Wiper blades stopped working

Six cylinder two wheel drive automatic 132,000 miles

when I turn on the wipers it just makes a funny "errr" sound and the wipers will not work. Any ideas?

When the radio is turned on the wipers will not work. I was thinking that there is a short in the harness in the dash behind the radio, but I am not sure. Maybe a crossed wire?

Unplug the radio, then troubleshoot the wipers. It sounds like there is an open ground wire and the radio is providing a ground when it is turned off.
