My floor shift stopped working and my brake lights won't turn on. I have a 1994 Toyota Corolla DX. I checked the fuses under the hood, and replaced the brake light switch above the brake pedal. The brake lights still don't work and the floor shift won't move out of "park". Please advise.

Thank you,
Rachel Wilborn

The shifter isn't working because of the brake light problem. The brake light switch sends power not only to the brake lights, but also to the park lock solenoid. Check to see if there is power to the brake light switch. If there is, either the switch needs adjusted or you got another bad one. If there is no power, you need to trace the wiring back to the power supply until you determine where the power is lost.
