You do have to remove the transmission and withdraw the torque converter, the seal is in the front housing, I would take the trans to a transmission specialist to have the seal replaced as re fitting the converter is a very tricky job, and if not done correctly you can damage the new seal of if the converter is not located correctly you will not be able to bolt the trans back up.
