Today driving the car with headlights on the battery started to go dead and then the engine died. The battery was drained. However the Alternator "No Charge" warning light never came on. The Alternator light does not light when I turn the ignition key (prior to starting) although the oil pressure light and other warning lights do come on.

Could a faulty alternator cause the alternator light to never come on? The battery was replaced a year ago and should be in good condition.
