My windshield wipers will not turn off when the switch is in off position, yet responds when the switch ask to turn them on. They won't turn off.

The wipers turn on normally but will not stop when the switch is turned off. It will turn off days later but is getting progressively worse.

1994 Honda Accord windshield wipers won't shut off and now the dash light is out. We have already replaced the switch assembly and think it may be the wiper relay, but we are not able to locate it on the car. Can you help? Also, my daughter said the dash light is out now too. Any ideas on where to start with that? Thanks!

Hi Acrdownr,

The intermittent wiper relay is under the main fuse box under bonnet.

Check for loose or corroded connector under the main fuse box.

Dash lights, check the dimmer control.

I used my wipers this morning on "single sweep" mode. They stayed on, refusing to turn off. I cycled through all the speed settings to no avail. Then, I tried the "wash" function, and they did stop eventually.

I can't replicate the "stuck on" problem, but now the wipers are not parked all the way down. I''m guessing the wiper motors might be the problem?

Most lilkely is a faulty wiper motor, but I would start with checking the wiper relay. If relay is bad and sticking it can also cause these symptoms.

Wipers won't turn off after you turn them on without key to engine turned off.
It also happens when you turn on the cruise control. It does have the intermitent switch. We have tried replacing the wiper motor with one from a junk car. Still have probelm with it not turning off. What else shoud hubby check? He is a mechanic so technical stuff should not be a problem. This car year model was when he was working still for Nissan so he is not sure what it is and what and how to check. Things we think it could be is the chassis contol unit (mulitfunction control unit integrated) or maybe a replay.

Tell him to check to see if the wiper multi-function switch is still sending power to the motor after you turn them off. The switch is located on the steering column.

My power window behind the passnger seat will not go up. Also, (this just started 2 wks ago and happens every day) the green light around the "D" on the dashboard starts blinking, it turns on and off.
And one more thing please, can you tell me how to take off the old windshield wipers and how to put the new windshield wipers on? Thanks for you time.

Hi pepsta96,

Thank you for the donation.

You need to test the window motor. It could be the master switch, door switch or wiring problem.

When the D4 light is blinking, a fault has been detected in the trans control system and you need a scan to check it.

Bridge the SCS terminals and count the blinks on the D4.

Press the unlock tab of the wiper blade mount clips to release the wiper.

I just got this car like 2 weeks ago, when I first got the car the windsheild wipers were completley gone. I went and bought new ones and when I turned them on the first speed was constant, and I thought to myself 'hmm, thats pretty fast for just the first speed' and when I stopped the car at the stop light the windsheild wipers automatically slowed down. They would then speed up when I drove. So I thought to myself that it was weird, but kinda cool that they did it. Then the other night I went to use my windsheild wipers, and they didn't do the same thing. The first speed was slow, so I put it on the second one. But when I would stop my car the windsheild wipers would go below my windsheild and smack the bottom (where the plastic is, where they usually sit when they are turned off) but when I drive off, they don't smack the plastic part they stay on the actual glass.

So I don't know if my motor is going out? Or if there is some kind of electrical problem. I need help!

Hi dazzlingdanzle,

Seems the wiper motor linkages might have worn off resulting in the inaccurate ans slow or fast movement. Lift the wiper arms and try shaking the base, if there are a lot of side travel, the pivot is worn and needs replacement.

There has to be a short to power causing the wiper motor to get power. It could be in the switch itself or any place in the wiring for the wipers.

I Have a 1996 Accord. The dealer replaced the wiper blades last week and the first time I used the wipers, I could not get them to turn off. This happens every time. They stay on for 10 minutes or so and I am finally able to turn them off. Is this a weird coincidence, or did they do something when they put the new blades on and tested? Seems like TOO much of a coincidence to me.

No, nothing to do with the replacement of the wipers. It would have happened even if you did not have the blades replaced.'

the parking circuit in the wiper motor is failing and the motor needs to be replaced.

My windshield wiper fluid dispenser didn't work since I bought the car a few months ago. Suddenly yesterday, in very cold conditions, the dispenser started working and would not turn off! Now today, I am seeing several electrical issues, such as the brake lights not turning off even with the vehicle turned off. Where should I start?

It often points to the alternator. I would have it tested. The brake light issue might be the switch at the brake pedal.

I need to replace wiper linkage. Trying to access the linkage and the diagrams I have show two different types of hood seals on the cowl covers. Diagram shows at least 10 seals to remove...I only find 4 seals and the cowl covers don't come off. Are my instructions off? I'm using autozone diagram :http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairinfo/repairguide/repairGuideContent.jsp?chapterTitle=Windshield+Wipers+And+Washers&partName=Chassis+Electrical&pageId=0900c1528026eb4c&partId=0900c1528026eb28

Any help/input is appreciated.

Wiper is linked to the Integrated Control Unit plugged into the underdash fuse box and is known to fail.
