Would putting in a relay while my car(1990 Toyota Camry V6 dlx) is running cause the relay to blow out?

From what the Mechanic was saying he said its impossible or too hard to rig these cars but after chatting with u I realized he tried to rig it, and I was just trying to get a temporary solution until I got the multifunctional switch fixed, I should've just had them to look at everything first instead of having them to install the switch, trial and error I guess, tried to put the switch on myself but couldn't get the steering wheel cover off that's the only reason I went to the shop

It is possible, only thing you must know how but you won't be able to use the multifunction switch. A 3-way switch would allow you to use the high and low beams as you flick them and also turn the lights off if it is riggged correctly.
