Spark is bright blue.

I had new valve seals put in less than six months ago and the fellow who did the work said that he set them then. I will check them tomorrow. The back firing and running rich was a problem even before he changed the seals.

For a brief moment it held an idle just a few minutes ago. I warmed it up for a good three or four minutes and when released the accelerator it held for about 30 seconds but when pressed on the accelerator again it sputtered and died. I tried several more times to get it to idle but got so frustrated I had to pack it in.

At 29 lbs fuel pressure should I go ahead and order the fuel pump?

Btw did you test the fuel pressure regulator? Crimp the return hose and check if pressure increases to more than 35 psi.

At 29 psi, it definitely is low but it could also be due to leakages, especially intank where the pump is attached to housing via a hose. Ensure the hose is good.
