I agree with you. If it stopped when you moved the wiring, there must be a short. What to do is check the wiring for insulation missing, damage, and check the plug where it pluggs into the wiper motor. Make sure nothing has melted on the plug allowing power to short. Same with the wiring.
If this only worked one time and moving the wiring doesn't work now, my next guess would be the switch itself.
