No Spark?

MY jeep stopped working about 2 days ago and I thought I had fixed the problem buy replacing the coil because it wasn't getting any spark and I took the coil and ignition control module assembly down to a car shop and had them tested and the module was fine but the coil was bad so I replaced it with a new one and it started right up and worked fine for about 10 to 15 min and it stopped working and I let it sit over night with the battery unplugged and I tried starting it the net day and it started fine and then I shut it off and it wouldn't start again and the cap and rotor are new.

There is spark but when it warms up it dies and the exhaust smells rich

Check and test the coolant temperature sensor, fuel pressure regulator, clogged-up return line and leaky injectors.

I'm having a similar issue with my 89 xj no spark from coil. I have power to module but no pulsating when cranking. I tested coil it test fine. Any ideas?

It sounds like you lost power or ground somewhere or the ignition module has gone out. here are engine wiring diagrams and a guide to help you test the system so we can confirm the ignition module failure:

89 jeep 4.0l, jeep died no spark, 12 volts on coil & mod. Had coil tested, coil and mod tested okay. Tested crank sensor reads 220 ohms. Tried testing cam sensor jeep started, it's rough, have 5 volt on the blue and gray striped wires, how to finish testing and checking the cam sensor? It also dies, but will restart. If I pull crank sensor jeep dies, plug it back in it will start. Pull plug on cam sensor still runs? Is this normal? I need some help on how to finish testing cam sensor.

No spark to distributor. New coil, new rotar, new cap, new voltage regulator.

Did you check for battery voltage at the coil positive terminal-also if its an EFI try listening to injectors-are they clicking.

Where did you check for spark at the coil or the plugs?

We found the problem. It was the ignition box under the coil. It was definatley a process of elimination. Thanks for the input. It was greatly appreciated

It will run fine for weeks than I go to start it and it will crank but not start (it is getting good fuel but no spark out of the coil!) I let it sit over night and it will crank and start right up the next morning! What's up?
P.S. The coil is good!

If your not getting spark out of your coil check your ignition control module and the wires plugged into it.

I had the same problem with my 88. Several Mechanic stold told me it was the crank positon sensor. It is located on the upper left rear of the engine on the bell housing. Jeep dealer has an updated sensor that will fix this.
