I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 5.2 and the problem is that when I crank it up in the morning it takes a while for the idle to get low which causes the transmission to slip when is cold but once is warm it drives fine?

Do you have an '88 or a '98? High idle speed won't cause a transmission to slip. Is the Check Engine light on? Have you checked for diagnostic fault codes?

Vacuum leaks are a common cause of high idle but if it goes away when the engine warms up, that suggests a coolant temperature sensor problem. That's not real common on Chrysler products.
