Is it realy necessary to remove the overhead cam on a 85 chevette to repair the head gasket? I see only 10 head bolts andwant to keep the intake and exaust attached and the cam if possible. This will help me to keep the intake and exaust gaskets in place. The cam requires a special tool and I would realy like to avoid that? Thanks

You need every thing removed. Take it to the head shop.
