WHY DO THE CABLES THAT GO TO THE STARTER GET HOT AND MELT AFTER WE TRY AND START THE TRUCK

Tried starting the truck almost started then the cables from the battery to the starter got hot and melted

Excessive starter draw. Most likely the starter armature is shorted to ground.
