I need you to expand for me on which hoses to disconnect from the carb. There are 8 or so and I have no idea what they do. Any help?

ROGER ON HELP

LETS START BY SEEING WHAT YOU HAVE AND DO NOT HAVE CONNECTED TO THE CARB AND ALSO TO THE INTAKE

FOR SURE, WE NEED THE PCV SYSTEM CONNECTED

DO YOU HAVE POWER BRAKES?IF SO, IT NEEDS TO BE HOOKED UP TO MANIFOLD VACUUM

AS FAR AS DISTRIBUTOR----I'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO GET AROUND ALL OF THE CRAP AND JUST HAVE ONE HOSE, FROM THE CARB TO THE DISTRIBUTOR

EGR IS OPTIONAL--KEEP THE SYSTEM---OR JUST LEAVE IT DISCONNECTED

ANY VACUUM PORT, LIVE VACUUM, OR NOT, SHOULD BE CAPPED OFF TO PREVENT A VACUUM LEAK. OR TO KEEP THINGS CLEAN, IF IT EVER GETS USED AGAIN

YOU HAVE IT MADE----I HAVE THE '77 AMC SERVICE MANUAL---SORTA LIKE OWNING SACRED SCROLLS."MORRIS 4x4" JUST "GIVES" THE SAME THING TO YOU, FOR FREE!

GOT ANY TUNING TOOLS YET?

Long time no talk. My fault for no response. Let me update you.

Found a holley 500 2 barrel carb for my jeep so just bought it today. Found out my carb had a nice crack in the side of it :( so Ive been searching for a new-to-me carb for some time.

Since this is just my hunting/off road jeep, I went to wally world and bought 99 cent bottles of spray paint and painted the whole body black. Looks a 1000 times better. Haha After hunting season, I may break out the sander and sand the entire thing down but for now, its just painted over.

Also ripped out old seats and brackets and just bought new seats and brackets today. Will look good with seat covers.

No getting gas to the fuel pump from the tank is still a issue. Began dropping gas tank the other day. So far it has gone easily. Im going to run rubber fuel lines for now. I am hoping my tank is salvageable but will not find out until tomorrow. Hopefully I will not be telling you that I bought a new gas tank 8)

Isolated the 2 vaccuum lines that I need so tomorrow I am going to try to reinstall the carb as is (without rebuilding) with just my 2 necessary vaccuum lines and see how it does.

Wish me luck,
Nathan

GOOD LUCK!

MAKE SURE YOU CAP OFF ALL VACUUM PORTS THAT ARE UNUSED AND COULD S. UCK AIR.

LET ME KNOW HOW THE TANK IS GOING AND WHAT YOU FIND THAT IS RESTRICTING FLOW.

I PULLED OFF A PAINT JOB W/ THE WALMART CHEAP PAINT, WHEN I FLIPPED A CAR---IT LOOKED GOOD FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS, TILL IT STARTED FADING! (RED).I SEE IT FROM TIME TO TIME AROUND TOWN. IT REALLY LOOKED GOOD, I FEEL SURE THAT WAS WHAT MADE THE $$$ ON THE FLIP.

DON'T BE A STRANGER SO LONG.I STILL MAY BE ABLE TO ASSIST YOU WITH SOMETHING

BOUGHT THE SHADOW FOR $300--SOLD FOR $1300--INTERIOR WAS GREAT. JUST SOME INEXPENSIVE COSMETICS---SANDED (NO PRIMER) PAINTED--HERE'S THE TRICK---3 COATS OF DOLLAR A CAN PAINT---GENTLE WET SANDING 2500 GRIT WET AND DRY. I rewired my ignition. It worked well a few times of turning the jeep over but then I went to show my dad the progress I had made and somehow the solenoid got stuck and it started spurting gas everywhere. Highly aggravating. Not sure if I have a short somewhere in my ignition or if it was my solenoid. Any tips?

Also, I removed my gas tank. Gas tank is shot. Outside looks alright but inside is very gummed up. Also, the float valve part is rusted and doesn't look salvageable. Going to go ahead and order a few new parts for my gas tank. Hopefully I can find a used plastic gas tank on craigslist or ebay.

Also, do you know if a holley 500 carb will fit on my cj7? The bolts line up and everything. I need to look up a diagram online that tells me how to hook up the throttle.

SOLENOID? ONE WAY TO CHECK IF IT'S A CONTINUOUS "START SIGNAL" FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH IS TO REMOVE "S" WIRE ON SOLENOID AND TEST FOR VOLTAGE ON THE WIRE--IT SHOULD BE DEAD, UNTIL THE KEY IS TURNED TO "START" (THEN 12 VOLTS)

INSURE WHERE EVER YOU GET YOUR TANK---THE FILLER PORT IS CORRECT SIZE FOR YOUR RIG (ANY THING ELSE TOO) YOU MIGHT SEARCH EVERYWHERE, FIND THE CORRECT ONE AND JOT DOWN THE PART NUMBER OR MODEL NUMBER---THEN START LOOKING AT THE CHEAP PLACES W/ THAT NUMBER----VAGUE DESCRIPTIONS MAY END YOU UP WITH THE INCORRECT TANK!

MORRIS 4X4 IS A GOOD PLACE TO START TO LOOK--THE TANKS ARE POLYETHYLENE...I LIKE MINE, IT'S A 21 GALLON EXTRA CAPACITY---HOWEVER IT HANGS LOWER THAN THE ORIGINAL, EXTREME 4X4ing MAY H.ELL DAMAGE IT!

ONCE YOU GET THE NUMBER

PLUG IT INTO " SHOPZILLA.COM "----SOMETIMES YOU WILL FIND A HECK OF A DEAL---OR TRY EBAY OR CRAIGSLIST

THEN WE HAVE THIS FOR THE CARB INFO---FLIPPING THE SWITCHES IS A NEAT TOUCH!

http://holley.com/applications/CarburetorSelector/CarbSelection.asp

ALTHOUGH MINE IS A HOLLEY 390 CFM (8007) THIS IS HOW THE LINKAGE WORKS ON MY 6 CYLINDERJUST SO YOU CAN SEE THE DEAL---THE OTHER CHOKE LOOKING CABLE IN HERE IS "NELSOMATIC CRUISE CONTROL" (RATHER A THROTTLE SPEED CONTROL, BASICALLY SAME THING!)

KEEP ON GETTIN' IT!

I will check out the solenoid tonight. Hopefully I can figure the problem out. If not, Ill go back to the push button switch. I bought a new gas tank at discount for 108.00 out the door. It was 15% off because of black friday deals. The cheapest I found online was 99.99 but that didnt include shipping or taxes.

Do you think its likely that my fuel lines from my gas tank to my fuel pump have corroded so much that they are clogged? I would like to reuse them if they are salvageable, but don't want to risk blowing rust particles all throughout my fuel pump just to test them. Any suggestions?

Also, my fan shroud got destroyed. Do I need to order a new one? Are shrouds completely necessary?
Thanks,
Nathan

IF THERE WAS WATER IN THE LINES---YES, THEY COULD BE CORRODED INTERNALLY

I'D ATTEMPT COMPRESSED AIR THRU BOTH----FEED AND THE RETURN LINE

BOTH NEED TO BE FUNCTIONAL, IF THE RETURN IS PLUGGED, THE CARB'S NEEDLE AND SEAT WILL GET OVERPOWERED FROM PRESSURE, IN TURN TOO MUCH FUEL WILL GO INTO THE BOWL AND STILL MAY RUN, BUT WILL RUN POORLY AS IT IS ACTUALLY FLOODING.

IF YOU GOT A PUMP FROM ONE OF THE POPULAR PARTS STORES---CHANCES ARE IT HAS A LIFETIME WARRANTY.I NEVER BUY ONE ANYMORE!

I HAVE 2 SPARE FUEL PUMPS, ONE ON-BOARD THE OTHER AT HOME (ON-BOARD, IS ALSO A SPARE COIL AND IGN MODULE). THESE ARE 3 COMMON--EZ TO FIX PROBLEMS, THAT HAVE LEFT ME STRANDED IN THE PAST (30 YEARS OF DRIVING ONLY CJ-5s).I ALWAYS SAID, "IF ONLY I HAD ONE NOW!". WELL I DO NOW. NOW I DON'T NEED 'EM! (YET). BUT OTHERS HAVE, THAT I HAVE FOUND SITTING ON THE ROADSIDE, SO I WILL KEEP THEM HANDY.

I WOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT RUST GOING THRU THE PUMP---I WOULD HOWEVER INSTALL A PRELIMINARY EXTRA "IN & OUT" CLEAR FILTER BETWEEN THE FUEL PUMP AND YOUR OEM 3 T. IT FILTER. AT LEAST FOR A WHILE TILL YOU GET THE CRAP OUT OF THE TANKTHIS WOULD BE CHEAPER AND EZ TO SEE IF IT'S STOPPED UP. CHANGE IT AS NEEDED---LET YOUR OEM GO FULL TERM, BEFORE IT'S CHANGEDREMEMBER YOUR FUEL IS CONSTANTLY FILTERED AS IT GOES AROUND THE LOOP THRU THE RETURN LINE.

AS FAR AS SHROUD--MINE DID NOT COME W/ ONE ORIGINALLY, NOR DID IT HAVE A FAN CLUTCH---IT HAD A FUNKY "X" FAN NOT A "+" FAN----I INSTALLED A AFTERMARKET FLEX FAN

I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH OVERHEATING ON MY 258 6 CYL---EVEN IN EXTREME TEMPERATURES---I DID USE A LONGER SPACER AND MY BLADES ARE JUST UNDER 2 INCHES FROM THE RADIATOR

HERE'S A PIC

Here we go again! I got a gas tank :) 108 bucks at advanced on black friday. Also got a new sending unit. Hooked all my lines up. Installed a clear in line fuel filter. The whole 9 yards! Installed my new carb. Hooked up my 2 necessary vacuum lines. Runs like a beauty! Kinda.
Problem now.I cant seem to get gas from my gas tank to my inline fuel filter. I disconnect the line at my inline fuel filter and put a temp hose into a 5 gallon gas can. Ran great.

Idled pretty well when choke was slightly engaged. I still feel line Im getting too much air to the amount of gas. But thats a different day.

I wanted to hook up a temp line to make sure my carb was working well and what not. Tried to hook my line from gas tank back up to inline fuel filter and I cant seem to get gas sucked out of my tank. I know my fuel lines are clear because I was able to blow compressed air through them. I also know my return line is clear because my return gas is going back to the tank.(I assume?) So why would my fuel pump not be able to pump gas from my gas tank to my inline fuel filter? The clear filter is nice because I can see if gas is making it there or not!

I tried putting more gas into my gas tank but still got nothing! Im stomped. Decided to stop working on it for the night since I have to wake up for work in 5 hours! :( Id like to work on it all night though.

Insight me Jeep Master!

INSURE YOU HOOKED THE RETURN TO THE CORRECT FITTING----AND THE FEED TO THE CORRECT FITTING

THE RETURN BARELY GOES IN THE TANK AND SPLASHES FROM THE TOP (TOP OF SENDING UNIT)INTO THE TANK

THE FEED TO THE FUEL PUMP IS SUBMERGED---AND YOU SHOULD HAVE INSTALLED THE SOCK OR PLASTIC SCREEN BACK ON THE PICK-UP TUBE FROM THE OLD UNIT

MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT SWAPPED

OTHER THAN THAT---YOU MAY HAVE A HOLE IN A PIPE, HOSE, LOOSE CLAMP ALLOWING THE PUMP TO S. UCK AIR, BEFORE IT GETS FUEL S. UCKED FORWARD.

RECHECK YOU LINES---PICS ARE REALLY NICE TOO

KEEP ME INFORMED---MY FAVORITE POST AT THE MOMENT!

Ok will check that out tomorrow. Hopefully I just got confused and put those on the wrong lines :) that'd be the idea situation because I can change that without having to drop the tank. :) Again.
Will take some updated pictures tomorrow and post them when I message you with my update.
Thanks for all the help!

I disconnected both my return and main fuel line going into my tank right where the steel lines convert to rubber hose to go into tank. I put them both in a 5gal gas can. My battery is charging now and I am off to dinner. But when I get home, I am going to see if my fuel pump will even pump the fuel from the gas can to the inline filter. I know that straight from the filter it will pump gas so now I am checking my fuel lines. If all goes well, I will double check that I hooked them up properly going into my tank. Is there any other reason that my fuel pump would not be able to pump gas from my tank?
Will send pictures when I get back from dinner.
Thanks!

ONLY REASONS I KNOW

CRIMPED LINE

HOLE IN LINE OR HOSE--DRAWING AIR INSTEAD OF FUEL

STOPPAGE---SUCH AS DIRT DAUBER BUILT NEST IN AN OPEN LINE

LINE NOT CONNECTED

LINES NOT CONNECTED TO CORRECT PORTS

DO NOT CONFUSE THE VENT W/ A FUEL LINE---IT ORIGINATES UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL---2 SMALL LINES ON TANK'S TOP EDGE (DRIVERS SIDE) GOES INTO LIQUID CHECK VALVE AND ROLL OVER CHECK VALVE (PLASTIC THINGEES INSIDE THE QUARTER PANEL)---VENT STARTS THERE GOES TO THE FRONT. UP FRONT, IT RESEMBLES A SMALL GARDEN HOSE (BRIGHT GREEN) AND ENDS IN THE CHARCOAL CANISTER. MINE IS NO LONGER THERE, I ROUTED MY VENT ONTO THE FIREWALL WITH A CLEAR FUEL FILTER SO IT COULD BREATH, AND CRAP NOT GET INTO IT.

KEEP IT GOING!

Must have been a small hole somewhere in the fuel lines. We ran a new main fuel line and the jeep is up and running!(And the crowd goes crazy). It seems like it is idling at a very high speed. Is there a screw that I can tighten or loosen to tone down the idle?

ON THE CHOCK SIDE IS "HIGH IDLE" STEPS---THIS TOO IS AN IDLE ADJUSTMENT WHILE THE CHOKE IS "CHOKING"

THE OTHER SCREW (ABOVE PIC) SHOULD ONLY BE ADJUSTED WHEN THE CHOKE IS FULLY OFF (IT'S BUTTERFLY STANDING VERTICAL)

SOUNDS LIKE IT'S CLOSE TO TIME FOR A TIMING LIGHT--A DWELL METER!

YOU DONE GOOD SO FAR!

I just drove my JEEP! Woowoot! But bad news.I dont have brakes and Im not sure why. Luckily I installed a choke cable before I test drove it so I used that to slow me down. It was a great feeling (besides the no brakes part.) When I pressed the brake pedal, my foot went all the way to the floor. I tried to pump my pedal to see if I had air in my lines but still got nothing. Any suggestions?
Im headed out now but will send pictures tonight! I promise. Lol
