CAR STARTS BUT AND RUNS DESCENT BUT ONCE I LET MY FOOT OFF THE GAS IT DIES

Doesn't even try to idle should I replace the distributor?

Just successfully replaced the timing chain thinking that this was the problem. Still does the same thing.

As I was adjusting the distributer position I see sparks at the adjustment bolt.

Also the oil is now 'milky' so I am about to replace the head gasket as I am fairly sure it hasn't been replaced for years after steady operation of the engine.

When it starts and I stay on the gas it runs descent but does have a miss

Sounds more of a carb issue than anything. It needs to be checked, especially the idle circuit.
