Car Throttle Bore or Throttle Plate
Question: 1998 Jetta GLS, mileage: 130,800. I had my car in for
a 100,000 mile servicing recently and the dealer said that I would need a new throttle
plate. What is a throttle plate, and is this a serious situation? Thanks
Answer: Throttle plate is a round disk or butterfly on a shaft that allows
air into the engine as the accelerator pedal is pushed. There are also electronic
sensors attached to it. If it is worn out or not functioning properly, it
should be replaced.
