Car Throttle Problems
Question: 1990 Buick Century, mileage: 120,000. My car has trouble
downshifting- late and hesitant. My car is also slow to downshift when I step
on the accelerator. I just recently changed the transmission fluid/filter
but that did not solve the problem. I also tried adjusting the throttle detent
cable but I don't have the appropriate specs or info as to what the correct adjustment
may be. It does however affect the problem but doesn't fix it.
Answer: You can adjust the transmission throttle cable by
following these instruction: With the engine off, hold the throttle wide open.
Undo the adjustment lock and pull back on the cable. Reset the adjustment
lock. If you still have problems try servicing the transmission by changing
the fluid and filter.
