MORE: Engine over heats or runs hot
questionsCar Engine Cooling Thermostat
Question: 1995 Chevrolet Corvette LS1 mileage: 60,000. I'm thinking of replacing
my vehicle's thermostat from stock 192 degrees to a 160 or a 178 low temp thermostat.
I live in Florida and during summer, the vehicle runs hot, doesn't overheat, just
runs hot. I know some of the benefits of a low temp thermostat, but what are some
of the problems that this change may cause?
Answer: Your engine computer management system is designed to work with
the engine at 192 degrees. A lower temperature thermostat may keep the engine in
open loop not allowing the computer to control the engine. This creates drivability
problems.
Question: 2001 Toyota Celica, mileage: 190,000. My Toyota has not
ever given me any problems until now. Recently, it has been taking a long
time for the car to warm-up. In the mornings, I'll drive 20 or 30 miles
before the needle on the temperature gauge will rise enough to hit the "C" and now
that the weather's turned cold, it's taking a long time to get any heat from the
heater. What do you think the problem is?
Answer: Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open. Replacing
it should solve your problem.
Question: 1999 Nissan Pathfinder, mileage: 105,000.

on Ford Bronco).

The top radiator hose is attaches to it.
Question: 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse, mileage: 113,000. When I drive,
the engine will not warm up, but when I am still then the engine does warm up.
Answer: It sounds like you have a thermostat that has failed and needs
replacing.
Question: 2004 Honda Accord, mileage 52,000. Please tell me where
my thermostat is. I removed the top radiator hose going to the engine and its not
there.
Answer: It is located in the housing at the end of the lower
hose (engine side).
