Car Radio Questions and Answers - This category contains featured questions as examples. They relate to most vehicles.

Question: 1996 BMW 328is mileage 158,000. My battery died and I had to replace it with a new one. Now my radio doesn't work. Can you tell me what I should do?

Answer: Your vehicle has disabled the radio because the power source "battery" was disconnected. This feature is designed to deter theft since you will need to contact the dealer to reset the radio code.

Question: 1990 Ford F150 mileage 181,000. The lights went out on my radio. The sound still works, sometimes, but I can't see what station I am on. I have resorted to pounding on the dash, but that just hurt my hand. Any ideas?

Answer: Internal shorts in the radio board I think it is time for a new radio Check with the dealer for the cost of your stock replacement. It will give you an idea of how much money you will cost, because there are a lot of aftermarket choices. Driving in your car is more enjoyable if you have a working stereo system. If you watch the Electronic Stores advertisements you can get your new sound system at a discount and installed for free. You may be able to replace your stock am/fm cassette radio with a stereo / cd player for the same price the dealer charges. Shop around before you buy.

Question: 1972 Volkswagen Square Back mileage 220,000 After my last tune up my radio has has a lot of static. It seems like the sounds go with the engine speed. I bought all the tune up parts a local auto part store.

Answer: First check to see if your radio ground wire is securely fastened. When buying plug wires you need to make sure they are shielded wires that match the original specs for your car. If they are not you will get interference from your electrical system on your radio.
