featured questions as examples. They relate to most vehicles.
Question: 2004 Honda Civic mileage: 45,000. When pressing on gas my car
sounds like a truck. The sound goes away once car above 40 mph. Just
had an oil change and had some body work done front drive side. Could they have
messed up when it was on the hoist.?
Answer: It is possible to "catch" your exhaust on the car hoist
so the noise could be a loose or broken exhaust pipe or broken muffler.
Question: 2002 Honda Accord mileage: 66,000. Well I'm a Air Force person
that likes to do a lot of things to my used Accord. I have the means of access to
a car garage. My question is my car needs a new muffler and exhaust pipe. I went
to Meineke and Midas which tried to charge me $412 dollars for the assembly and
exhaust pipe and etc. Labor was only 24 bucks. I called around to parts stores and
all together it would be $202 dollars. I can do it myself but will there need to
be any welding at all? Or connect the pieces and go? I can't use a blow torch I
can get one but don't know how to use one. People at the parts store said just take
apart the clamps and put on the new muffler and connect the exhaust pipe to the
muffler and that’s that. Is this true? Help I'm so confused.
Answer: The muffler and exhaust pipe can be changed easy and without a
torch. With exhaust systems, we have found the factory parts, from eAutoPartStore.com,
to fit the car properly. Performance exhaust parts produce more power and get better
fuel economy. So consider a performance exhaust system for replacement.
Question: 2003 Volkswagen Golf mileage: 36,000. I just had a performance
exhaust system installed. When I drove it out of the shop where I had it done everything
seemed great, then my check engine light when on. So I returned to the shop and
they told me the exhaust system didn't have a place to put the oxygen sensor and
to get a MIL eliminator chip. Do they make such a thing? .. what should I do?
Answer: No, the garage is wrong about a MIL eliminator chip or something.
Have them install the oxygen sensor back in the new pipe. Or get the right exhaust
system. It is against the law to do anything the will prohibit the MIL functionality.
Question: 2002 Ford F150 mileage: 82,500. I like my truck but it would
be better if it had more power. Would a performance exhaust really help that much,
and how about the performance intake system. can you help?
Answer: Yes, performance exhaust is an excellent bolt on house power item.
You can install the system fairly easy and the horsepower gain is very noticeable.
The Performance air intake systems don't add quit as much power but are easier to
install. In short the performance exhaust system and the performance air intake
systems are a great horsepower increase combination.
