Idle Air Control Valve

valve questions
Car Idle Air Control Valve Question and Answer - This category contains featured
questions as examples. They relate to most vehicles.Question:
2002 Isuzu Rodeo mileage: 62,000. After cruising
100+ miles on the highway using the cruise control, I slow down at a traffic light
and the car stalls. It restarts without problem but the idle is poor and sometimes
quits. This morning the car started great, but after I came out of the store and
restarted, it would not idle unless I pump the gas or maintained RPM\'s above 1000.
Made it home and checked all hoses and connections and started ok with good idle.
Is this an IAC valve problem?
Answer: Your problem may be an IAC (idle air control)
valve. Also, check for a faulty EGR (exhaust gas recycling) valve that may be sticking
open.
Question: 2002 Ford Mustang GT mileage: 85,000. I'm
at the end of my rope with Ford dealers and my Mustang. Several times every week
the car will not start. I'll try to get it to start, but it acts like its not getting
fuel. I'll give it fuel, and it will start, then it continually stalls until I get
about five miles down the road. I have to give it a constant supply of fuel until
it works out its kinks and runs correctly. Several dealers have taken a shot at
it. I've been told everything from getting new plug wires (mine are fine) to the
IAC Motor needs replaced. One dealer replaced a sensor on the engine, but it started
acting up again shortly thereafter. Can you help?
Answer: Your problem is not likely the idle air control motor (IAC). But
more your fuel pump assembly.
Question: 2002 Jeep Cherokee mileage: 92,000. My check engine light
comes on - the trouble codes say its problem #25 - idle air control sensor circuit.
The dealer and auto parts stores say there is no idle air control on my vehicle.
Then what is trouble code 25? Alternatively, are they wrong? In addition,
in the morning when it is cold, you can start it fine but it will not stay running
unless you hold down the accelerator. It acts like an old car. Once
it is warmed up its ok. Please help - thank you.
Answer: The symptoms you describe are classic idle air control motor failure.
As far as we know, your car should be equipped with an idle air control motor.
Perhaps you asked for an idle air control sensor rather than an idle air control
motor.
Question: 2003 Ford Explorer mileage: 34,000. Truck has real rough at
idle, smelled of heavy exhaust, got bad gas mileage and hesitated at highway speeds.
Pulled the codes and it showed a bad oxygen sensor. Replaced sensor and truck
still ran real rough. Checked the EGR valve with vacuum, when vacuum was applied
the idle would get rough, and the EGR would hold the vacuum. Also am
getting the correct voltage to it from the computer. When I cleaned the Idle
Air Control Valve with carburetor cleaner and then put it, back on it would run
perfectly smooth for about 15 seconds then the idle would get rough again.
When I tried driving the truck it shook horribly and finally choked to death down
the street. So now, it's totally dead and won't start at all! It turns
over fine but it won't fire up. I checked for spark at the end that's good;
wonder if I should look at the fuel systems next? Also, tried to get a voltage
from the IAC valve but didn't get an accurate reading, I want to be sure what part
it is before I spend the $81.00 for it. Could the IAC cause a problem
this severe?
Answer: Check the fuel system, the pump and the fuel pressure
regulator or Mass Air Flow Sensor.
