Question: 2004 Honda Accord mileage: 34,000. I was driving my car on the
freeway and seemed low on power. Now I know I should service my car a little more
often but time is tight. I work two jobs and have four kids so money is tight also.
I took my car into the local garage. I explained my problem to him and he had me
open my hood, after a couple of minutes of looking around he announced that he had
fond the problem, a clogged air filter. Sure enough I got back on the road after
he replaced it and the power is back!. My question is how often should I change
my air filter?
Answer: The life of an air filter is determined by environment differences.
A general rule of thumb is to change it every time you change the oil to be safe
or every 3,000 to 4,000 miles.
Question: 2005 Honda Civic (miles) 37,990 - I just replaced factory air
filter with a discount air filter. What is the difference? can I really hurt the
motor with an inferior filter or is it just a myth?
Answer: The difference between OEM and aftermarket filters is specifications.
a. the micron count of the material used. b. total filter material surface
area. Factory OEM air filters use a smaller micron count to keep dirt out. Performance
air filters like KN Air Filters are designed with hi flow characteristics.
Question: 1998 Chrysler Town and Country 3.3 or 3.8 liter mileage: 45,000.
In most cars/vans, the air filter is the easiest item to change. Unfortunately,
I didn't find it that easy on the 1998 Town & Country van. Short of taking a hammer
to the casing how do I open the casing to change the filter? I looked on-line for
a manual that I could reference but wasn't successful finding one. Any help you
can provide for this embarrassing question would be appreciated.
Answer: Replacing the air filter in your van is not easy.
Unfortunately, you cannot change the filter with the housing (casing) still in the
car. The entire assembly must be removed and disassembled to replace the air filter.
