won't start

It will turn over but won't start. I have touched the coil wire to the distributor but there is not fire. What could be the cause of this problem?

scan for codes first and check fuel pressure check fuses underhood. check pickup coil in dist for ohms , shold be around600 ohm range I think. check fusible links running off of starter relay by battery
